Completing this training is the necessary first step to maintain your accreditation with the Rail Industry Worker (RIW) system under the new standard. The second step is a registration and online assessment process conducted by RIW.

The training is delivered by Dr Graeme Edwards, KINNECTs Chief Occupational Physician and CMO for ARTC and UGL rail operations. Dr Edwards is an active member of the Rail Industry Safety and Standards Board’s (RISSB) Chief Medical Officers Council (CMOC) and CMOC Authorized Trainer who has been deeply involved in the development of the new standards.

The training session lasts for 2-3 hours. It really depends on the number of questions asked!

A minimum of 8 attendees is required for the training session to go ahead. If this minimum is not met, you will be notified and given the opportunity to reschedule to another date.

The new 2024 National Standard for Health Assessment of Rail Safety Workers is expected to be announced in Q4 of 2024. Once published you will have a limited time to complete the CMO Briefing session and registration/assessment process before a date (yet to be announced) after which you will no longer be able to complete AHP medical assessments.

You can register for the training by completing the registration form on this page of our website. Spaces are limited, so early registration is recommended.

Your certificate can only be issued after upon successful completion of the online registration and assessment part of the training. Once registered you will receive a certificate confirming your accreditation under the new 2024 National Standard.  Having completed the CMO Briefing Session you will receive notification that your details have been sent to RIW and to except an email with a link for the next steps.

Upon successful completion of the training, Dr Edwards will advise RIW that you have completed the course. RIW will then send you a link to an online portal to complete your Assessment questions. The online portal will not be available for completion until after Federal Ministerial sign-off whihc is currently expected to be 16 September 2024. The registration and assessment MUST then be completed by a yet to be determined date if the AHP is to complete a Rail Health Assessments in the following weeks. If you intend to continue providing Rail Health Assessments your workers will not be able to have their Health Assessment registered with RIW if you are not registered with RIW.

This training is essential for all Authorised Health Professionals (Medical Practitioners for Categories 1,2, and 3 and Nurses for Category 3) who conduct health assessments for rail safety workers and need to remain accredited with the RIW system under the new standard. During the Registration and Assessment processes, clinicians registering only for Category 3 AHP status will complete an assessment process designed for them. But all AHPs need to complete a CMO Briefing session.

No, this is a live virtual training session that must be attended in real-time. However, the session is only 3 hours long and designed to be comprehensive yet efficient. NTC has made it a condition of online training that your camera is on for the entire duration of the session.
