COVID-19 Update: Suspension of Spirometry Testing
Today KINNECT have received updated advice from the Thoracic Society of Australia & New Zealand (TSANZ) and the Australian and New Zealand Society of Respiratory Science (ANZSRS) recommending that all medical facilities cease performing spirometry testing, unless it is deemed essential, due to the potential risk of transmitting COVID-19.
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR EMPLOYERS?
You can continue to request Pre-Employment Medical’s and Legislative Medical’s (such as Coal Mining Medicals) however, should the medical contain a spirometry test this component of the medical will be excluded. In light of this change, our Medical Officers will still be able to make a determination of the candidates fitness for work, however may recommend in some instances, that the candidate return in the coming months to complete a spirometry test (if required as a baseline).
