Carbon disulfide (CAS 75-15-0) can be found in pure and impure forms. Pure Carbon Disulfide is a clear, colourless liquid that has a sweet, pleasant smell. It evaporates quickly at room temperature and explodes and ignites easily. Impure carbon disulfide is used in industrial processes. It is a yellowish liquid with an unpleasant smell like rotten radishes. Carbon disulfide is used in making regenerated cellulose and cellophane as well as a poison for feral pigs. Workers in manufacturing plants using carbon disulfide have a high risk of exposure.
Baseline Testing
A baseline Carbon Disulphide health monitoring medical contains the following tests:
- Demographic, medical and occupational history
- Respiratory function and past exposure questionnaire
- Medical Examination with particular focus on the respiratory system and skin
- Urinalysis – Blood Protein and Sugar
- KINNECT Dr Review and Sign off
- Pathology – MBA 20 for Frequent or high risk exposure (non fasting)
Periodic Testing
Pathology only – completed annually
- MBA 20 for Frequent or high risk exposure
- Urinary 2-thiothiazoldine-4-carboxylic acid level
- KINNECT Dr Review and sign off

Post Exposure
Post Exposure testing for Carbon Disulfide consists of:
- Respiratory function and past exposure questionnaire
- Pathology – MBA 20 for Frequent or high-risk exposure (non-fasting)
- Â Urinary 2-thiothiazoldine-4-carboxylic acid level
- KINNECT Dr Review and sign off

Exit Testing: Termination of work in a Carbon Disulphide process
A final exit medical for Carbon Disulfide consists of:
