Thirteen of KINNECT’s aspiring leaders have joined our new leadership program to develop their skills and progress in their careers. We spoke to Jade, one of our Admin Team Leaders, about how she is finding the program.
The Emerging Leaders Program (or ELP as it is known internally) is our home-grown talent program where we build and invest in the business leaders of tomorrow, today.
KINNECTers apply and are selected to join the program from all over the business. Some are already supervisors; others have no people management responsibilities. Some are consultants working in workplace rehabilitation or occupational health, while others are in support services and Admin. All have one thing in common; a desire to progress in their career and develop themselves.
Jade Pulford, who is currently based in our Perth clinic, joined KINNECT two years ago after a short stint in customer service after University where she studied Public Relations.
“Like most of the recruits joining KINNECT’s support services team, I began in pre-employment. After nailing this area, I learned about all the various admin departments, gradually becoming somewhat of an expert. This is a key feature of jobs in our support services department. We are all (eventually) cross-trained so we can assist in other departments which means we have both variety and the opportunity to move around if you fancy doing something a little different.
“I was recently promoted which is incredibly exciting. I now lead our Bookings team as well as all the Front Desk Team across working at our 13 clinics across Australia.
“Our team are responsible for creating great first impressions with our customers. I’m located in Perth so supervising and providing support to this big team, remotely, is one of the things I’m keen to learn as much about as possible.”
Learning about leadership
“The Emerging Leadership Course was promoted internally and it felt like a no brainer for me to apply. I want to learn more about leadership and in particular, people management. Developing these skills is something that will help me a huge amount in my new role.
“I’ve always been the type of person who has been keen to develop myself. I like to learn new things and the ELP allows you to do just that.
“I see my role too as helping others on my team to find out what they are good at, whether that is people, technology, or whether this might be something else entirely.
“Jess, my supervisor, has and continues to be a great role model for me on this. She has been so supportive of me joining the ELP and encouraged me to go for this new role.”
Getting stuck into study
“The ELP is the first formal ‘study’ I’ve done since University so I’m keen to get my teeth sunk into it. The course has really broad content which I think will be useful for my day-to-day role.
“I’m keen to understand all the different parts and functions of KINNECT’s business, like operations and finance. Understanding all the different functions within the business and how they interact will be helpful. I think the more insight you have about the whole business will definitely help you make better decisions.
“For me, good leaders need to be able to communicate their vision and help people to understand how their role contributes to the vision. I for one can’t wait to get into the ELP and see where it takes me!”
